Kokkola Opera Summer 31.5.-9.6.2012
This summer the main event of the Kokkola Opera Summer festival will be a world premiere of Ahti Karjalainen - elämä, Kekkonen ja teot - (his life, works and Kekkonen). Librettist and director is Juha Hurme, composition Heinz-Juhani Hofmann, Dalia Stasevska, conductor. The opera tells a story of politics and boozing at the Kokkola City Theatre.
Maestro Sakari Oramo has planned 3 Coffee Concerts, including the Schubert Octet, Anu Komsi and Marzi Nyman will combine their improvisatory skills at the Kokkola Church in "Heaven" concert and Kokkola Opera School will perform in Truth on Trial (works of Detlev Glanert and Antonio Vivaldi). In addition, Shopping Operas will meet unsuspecting shoppers in various locations.

West Coast Kokkola Opera produced a highly acclaimed version of Bizet's Carmen last summer. The New Helsinki Music Hall has now invited this production to visit during their first six months after opening. Watch out for more information. Performance date February 12th, 2012.
West Coast Kokkola Opera commissioned a new opera from Sebastian Fagerlund in 2009, which received its World Premiere during Kokkola Opera Summer that same year. During a tour to Sweden this opera was recorded by BIS. Highly acclaimed hybrid CD was released in July 2010. Read some of the reviews:
